International Teacher Representative Candidate
Adrian “Edge” Angeles
9-12 Teacher
Philippine Science High School Main Campus, Quezon City, Philippines
I have been a member of the Board as a replacement in 2022 for a different international member. I have seen a greater part of the world take part and take pride in the Computer Science Teachers Association and I would love to be able to be given the chance to continue serving as the International Teacher Representative if the organization will still have me.
I have served as the President of CSTA Philippines when it was founded, the first international chapter of the organization. I currently hold the Immediate Past President position and regularly provide guidance to the chapter. I had served as the chair of our school’s Computer Science Unit, managing 11 teachers for three years and navigating the challenges of computing needs for the entire school when the lockdowns began in March 2020. Additionally, I had served as a consultant and curriculum material writer and editor for our school system’s 16 campuses to distribute learning guides and assessment materials even to places with no connectivity. Furthermore, I had served on the Board of CSTA from October 2022 to the present where I had become a voice for international members.
I have seen and experience the struggles of teachers, notably Computer Science teachers, in the Global South and bring a perspective from areas around the world where the teaching community has not as much resources from their schools, districts, or governments. I would like to be able to continue championing the teachers from the Global South and be able to raise a voice for the challenges in computing in a technologically-challenged sector of the globe. I have been involved in Computer Literacy training for teachers and students for a couple of decades with my first endeavor with students Project COLT (Project Computer Literacy Training) being lauded as an outstanding project. I continue to work with remote communities in enticing students and their families to continue formal education by bringing school activities to their homes.
I, along with other teachers in the Philippines, had founded the first international chapter of CSTA. We started to form the chapter and invite members in 2019 and was eventually approved in the throes of the lockdown. I had served as volunteer to CSTA Conferences since 2018 starting as a bag stuffer, session moderator, and workshop moderator in Omaha. I have been on the Conference committee every year since the CSTA Conference in 2020. I had also served on the Chapter Leadership committee for two years. I have also served on the Board of the organization from October 2022 to the present.
